Day 2
I woke up at 7am, together with Xiao Wah and Baohui, despite I slept at 2 am in the morning. I bathe and realize bathing the morning. It is not as cold as at night. I shivered once in the bathroom. I have no problem with changing clothes.
Today we went to walk around Wuhan Institute of Technology to get to be familiarizing with the environment. I learned several things today:
1. Never says “thank you” to the server
2. Never pick a thing up when something drop, unless the thing belongs to me
As what I heard from Baohui, the waitresses or the manager would look down on. I have no idea where this idea came from but I guess I should just follow the rules here.
3. Never refer someone I don’t know to be Little Sister (in Chinese), only can refer her as Auntie or Big Sister
As I still heard from Baohui, the local would feel that I am calling them prostitute. It sound like a very disrespectful way to call them.
4. Never exclaim about the how you feel about a dog.
For this, it shocked me as I do not know that I can’t exclaim a dog looked adorable. The owner will think that I want to eat it. I didn’t realize that until Baohui told me that the owner’s expression changed after I said that the puppy is adorable.
We walked to our classroom. Our classroom is at 7th floor. Oh my god! We do not have elevator to our classroom. We NEED TO CLIMB THE STAIRS! I think walking to Blk 34 is not longer a tedious job for me after this ‘training’.
We walk to the food stall next to Wuhan Institute of Technology. Their Re Gan Mian (hot dry
noodle) is really spicy. I was not able to finish the whole bowl of noodle, and guess what? I bought my first hot bubble tea in Wuhan. Woohoo! The best part is they tasted better than cold ones that I drank in Singapore. I doubt Singapore would sell hot bubble tea since she is a warm country.
On our way back to hostel, we saw clothes hanging on the trees. I didn’t manage to take the photos but it looked interesting. I think since I have 40 days in Wuhan, I can take the picture down in the near future.
Then, we went Carrefour after the site visit for necessities. We bought cloth, clothes hangers, some detergents and etc. It cost us about RMB52. It is shared among the 3 of us, Baohui, Xiao Wah and me. I am pretty impressed by us because other groups bought theirs at least RMB100.
We went to KFC as I felt hungry. I bought small whipped potato and hot milo. Their whipped potato tasted really good. I never seen so much whipped potato sauce added in the whipped potato until now. I surprised to see Portuguese egg tart available in KFC. Out of curiosity, we bought it and shared among me, Baohui, Carmen and huixin. It cost RMB 25.50 (about SD$5.70) for 6 pieces. It tasted heavenly!
We do some clean up in the apartment. We divide the task. Xiao Wah mopped the floor, Baohui washed bathroom and I clean up the kitchen. Cleaning up the kitchen seems to be the simplest job, but when washing the utensils with chilled water, it was not an easy task. My hands were numb after cleaning.
On our way to grab our dinner, I saw some interesting stuffs. There are clothes that were hanged on the tree. I took the picture down very quickly. There were people dancing in the street publicly and they need to pay for it.
We ate our dinner in restaurant. It was not a treat from Mr Wee initially. Thanks Mr Wee! The food there was yummy and their service was pretty good. Jack boon ordered a pot of tea that cost RMB 68. Oh my. It is so expensive. The utensils are interestingly wrapped in the However, despite we are eating in enclosed room, and we still can smell the tobacco smoke from outside.
The room was pretty stuffy also. I think they need some centrifugal fan to ventilate to room.
