Day 9

I thought the famous phrase “raining cats and dogs” is just a phrase for show, but after today, it’s time for me to revise my life experience. We walked through the rain for IS today. Carmen tripped and fell and almost gives me a heart attack.

The first IS lesson is about China Economics, which is basically divided into 4 regions e.g. East economic region where the powerful coastal economic developed. Their VAT (Value-added Tax), which in Singapore term means Government Service Tax, has been increasing from 17% to 25%. Our lecturer, Mr Andy, showed us the statistics about the about the GDP growth in China. Mr Wee and Mr Andy told us explained about the drop of GDP growth and reasons about why there was a large increase of withdrawal of investment during 1088 to 1992. The GDP structure from 1990 to 2003 is mainly contributed from secondary industry. He also told us about the challenges of economics in china:
· Capital accumulation will remain the important source for economic growth and flow of integration capital will make saving rate and investment rate more uncertain
· Provide better economic conditions to economic growth however it increases the uncertainty development in the future.
· More progress causes tough for reform with become less effective in improving the relocative efficiency of resource
· The progress in industrialization and urbanization will drive domestic demands to grow, the cost for economic growth will rise
· The changes mode of economic growth will improve the effectiveness in resource utilization, shortage in strategic resource
· Aging problem
· Pressure on employment: new labour forces, labour forces transformation
· Limitation of public resource such as basic education, public health and social security
Talking about economics, I thought I would be able to escape from this frightening module forever after the exams, but no! Reality showed me that I am not able to escape from this agony. All the theory of economics just popped out in my mind.

My later part of the day starts when Baohui, Carmen and I sneakily went to Guangyu Centre to buy Xiujin’s birthday present. We went to the largest Pizza Hut restaurant in the world. We ordered 1 pan of 10 inch Hawaii pizza, 3 bowls of clam chowder soup and 1 basket of garlic bread and some warm water. The garlic bread and Hawaii pizza tasted great but not as good as the ones in Singapore (which what I think), but their soup is delicious. The bread tasted like croissant and the soup has a rather thick texture. Yummy! I hoped this soup is available in Singapore.

So, after searching for HELLO KITTY in the mall for 2-3 hours, we bought her a watch and camera pouch. I hoped she like our presents. We went to Carrefour and bought honey and lemon since we have our sore throat. Honey and lemon are very expensive in China. We bought a very small bottle of honey at RMB16 and 3 lemons at RMB7.
